So I searched the forums, read a couple articles and haven't found an answer, but my new WTIU all of a sudden stopped working properly. When I go to try to add an engine it says interrogating engines then quickly says request timed out. I tried this on my Ipad and Iphone and it does the same thing. I tried network and home on the WTIU connection and even deleted the ipad app, reinstalled it and the same thing happens. Does anyone one know what might have happened or what could cause this? Is it the app or the WTIU? It was working fine then all of a sudden it just won't add any engines. I've got the premium app and can find the WTIU just fine. Although I've noticed that sometimes it comes up that it can't find the TIU. I'm Baffled. Any help or direction is appreciated.

Edit: I also noticed when I increase the voltage on the 2 Z4000's I have powering the track(s), the engines start up automatically, which is also not the norm.

Be sure to let the WTIU completly cycle on going thru about a two minute boot-up before applying track  power, otherwise there will be no watchdog signal from the WTIU telling the engines they are in DCS mode and they will start up in conventional mode and take off.  not sure about the time out problem .

Thanks Jim. I do wait several minutes before applying the power to the track. It's odd that all of a sudden it started happening.

was there any type of incident on the rails right before this happened?

Are all the lights on correctly?

You may need to have this unit checked out.

Does it run any engines that are already loaded? Do they always miss the watchdog signal and start up?

Hey Joe, good hearing from you. No incidents, all lights are good and I can recognize the WTIU under advanced settings. Yeah it would run already programmed engines but wouldn't add any new and had some connection issues too.  It also seemed to lose the watch dog signal. Sooooo, I pulled out my old Rev L TIU and separate WIU and hooked up one of my lines to it and it ran flawlessly. Added engines and ran fine.  Unfortunately, I think this is a WTIU issue. The problem just started all of a sudden. There's part of me that really thinks this is the first release jitters and maybe MTH released these units just a bit too soon before they had the bugs worked out. I'll have to call Jim Strom and see if he wants to take a crack at looking at this. It's under warranty so we'll see if I can bring it to Jim or have to send it back.

Verify track signal using engines already on your engine list.  I posted earlier I had one output feeding a track loop that I couldn't do lash ups or sometimes engines wouldn't appear.  Willing to bet I wouldn't be able to add an engine.  I was getting track signal of 5 or a no read.  Change loops from a different output and everything worked as it should.

I don’t have a WTIU, but I have been having issues with my WIU lately that sounds similar to yours. Primarily, it only happens with my steam engines, but I will go to add them (to my newer iPhone) and it will interrogate for a minute before timing out. Then say that I don’t have a connection to the WIU/TIU. I’ll then have to cycle power to both and try again to no avail.
