Gustav Taus, the CEO of Czech maker ETS passed away last Saturday 25th April. ETS have been fine makers of tinplate trains for many years and have recently been making ACE trains under contract as well. ETS are a very small company, I hope his passing won't cause the company to close.

Sad to hear. I also hope they don't close, I haven't saved up enough to buy the couple of locomotives from them I want.
What gauge are their trains?
That's sad Dave. He was responsible for some very fine products. He will be missed.
Sad news. I'm with you, Dave.
We hope the company survives.

I have a nice boxed set with the 'US' style 0-4-0 tender and cars. The entire set is nice with a heavy wooden box and nice tinplate trains. Picked it up at a Columbus Ohio train show for a very good price.
They make a few different type trains.....but mine are 3R O scale.
Sad news indeed. My thoughts to the family and I do hope the company survives.
Sad news. I purchased my first ETS set from Gustav roughly six years ago. He sent the set before I even paid him. I was fortunate to meet him in person at Milwaukee's TrainFest several years ago. He was a very nice person. RIP.
Very very sad, I have purchased quite a bit of ETS over the years and it is first rate.
All the best,
Miketg
I'm sorry to hear of his passing. I never got to meet him personally, but everything I heard about him was good. He did a lot for the hobby with ETS. As I understand it, he started the company as part of the first wave of entrepreneurs who transformed the country after Czechoslovakia got out from under Communism. He was a great innovator who made a quality product, and I hope his successors keep the company going. I have a lot of ETS myself, and hope to acquire more.
Sad to hear. I do really like his products. I have a two rail, wooden Box, Lucy, passenger set. I got it before I even knew the company because it was so unusual.
In memory of the past week deceased Gustav Taus, the founder and director of ETS, see here a cavalcade of some of the ETS trains.

Fred is there an affiliation between ETS and the new Paya items?
Jim,
There is no affiliation between ETS and Paya; a German toy train shop owner that specializes in gauge 0 including tinplate (like ETS and Merkur) has made some customization to ETS (flat)cars adding/fixing special loads (http://www.modellbahn-ammon.de/pages/ladegut.html). He just bought some Paya reproduction planes and attached these to ETS flatcars.

Great idea. I think my silver Junkers will end up atop a Fandor or Marx flat.

We are publishing a tribute announcement in honor of Gustav is the next issue of OGR.
He was a great person professionally and socially. The hobby was lucky to have him and he will be greatly missed.
Like a lot of you, I sincerely hope ETS will continue with their high quality line of tinplate trains.
