Dr. Peter:

That is a GREAT cake! Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY and many more!!!!!!

Thank you........please these pics are from my archives........the lady who did these moved away years.  She was very talented. I have some non-covered wagon pics and these will start showing up on Front End Friday......

It tasted even better than it looks!

A couple of years ago, I took a sample of F units from my collection and lined them up for a comparison. From left to right: MTH-Premier, MTH-RailKing, Atlas, Lionel, Williams, K-Line, Williams, and 3rd Rail. For the most part they seem to be scale except of the MTH-RailKing which is under sized. The 3rd Rail is longer because it is a FP7 which is 4ft longer than a F3/F7.

Here are some of my favorite F units from the Southeast.

Arnold, I'll take a shot at your questions regarding derailment and pulling power.

I haven't noticed a difference in the tracking ability of my F3 type diesels vs other types.  I don't recall any of my diesels derailing on my tubular track and switches in the twenty years I've been back in the hobby (in the absence of factors like a switch thrown in the wrong direction or track defects).

Pulling power depends on the size of motors, weight and traction, not body type.  F3s and GP7s, for example, from the same manufacturer, are likely to have the same motors, weight and traction tires.  Smaller diesels, like a GE 44 tonner, have smaller motors and less weight, resulting in less pulling power.  I hope this helps!

John
