Enjoyed the video!  Thanks for sharing!   

If only the builders were alive today, they would be amazed that this locomotive was still in operation.  Never could they have imagined that a machine designed to last maybe 25 yrs of operation was still operating 78 yrs later!!   A real credit to the builders and to those involved in its restoration and upkeep.

Those may be Prime steam operated cylinder cocks, i.e. steam pressure is used in order to keep each cylinder cock closed against cylinder pressure. Since it is obviously so cold out, any little bit of steam vapor appears as a massive leak.

I suspect you're correct.  The photographer's certainly didn't want it, since any steam leak covers up the running gear.

That plus the slightly leaking rod packing on the pistons, certainly didn't help, what with those winter temperatures.
