Alan,
That was a great cab ride! I Sind it most interesting when the train we are riding in comes in close proximity to another moving one! Life in the big city!
Beautiful industrial landscape and your track work looks smooth as silk. Like your clock collection, too.
Sweeet!
I was watching the evening news and your video on my laptop...switched your video over to the big screen..the news lost out.
Excellent!!!!
Awesome layout. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
That was just cool
Thanks for the ride
I am overwhelmed by the inspiring comments! Thanks again to all of you. To answer some of the questions you had:
EddieM...yes, the camera will fit inside of a tank car but it fits so nicely on a flat car with enough room to angle it in different directions if you want..
Doug...I will make a video on the "EL"..
GG12340...the monorail is made by Disney and it comes with the track. I ordered extra track...about 150 feet more!
Alan
I loved when the Acela or whatever that was went whooshing by a couple or more times. That is one heck of a ride. Glad to see you having so much fun. Long may it last. Cheers!
Awesome layout! I really like the bridges and the cat system! I love the Acela too. I am trying to find one but have not had any luck. I can't wait for more videos! One question, how many trains can you run at once?
Alan,
What fun to see your layout from that vantage point. The shed, bridge, buildings, and all the other details I picked up along the way were a nice surprise. Well done.
Andy
Enjoyed this very much Alan - Hey. Where did you get all that Atlas track?????
Thanks again!!
Max: I can run conventionally or command. In conventional mode, I have three mainlines, an elevated, and two other lines...one in a suburban area and another across the "river" in the south end of town (where you see the PRR MP54 cars running. In addition I have a large freight yard which one can switch in and a intermodal yard as well as 8 passenger sidings under the train shed and station which can be switched. The diesel and steam facilities are able to be operated while other train run too.
Sam: bought all the track I needed for the layout way back in 2006 just before the big price increases....
Alan
Wow, beautiful layout! Thanks for the tour, I second the motion to see a track plan.
Alan,
Thanks for the ride on your incredible layout, a life time of construction that feels like you are riding thru different parts of the USA. The Trains, towns and video were all outstanding, I loved every bit of the ride!

Amazing Alan! I could just keep watching ! Would love to see more of the city and the harbor scenes . I was fascinated! Thanks for sharing, would love to see more!
Very nice Alan, I'm surprised you hadn't done this sooner! Keep up the progress
That was wonderful Alan. A great way to see a terrific layout from a different perspective. Eddiem and I discussed your video and the Go Pro at lunch today.
Wonderful Alan! I really enjoyed the video tour from the cab. I really love the large city scene you have created. Very well done indeed! Thanks for the sharing the video. Bo
Well....I keep coming back because I want to thank everyone and those that have responded since my last "thanks".
A couple of questions above answered: I have a hand drawing of he track plan and have posted it before but it is not a good drawing. I really need to do one with some track planning software..
I will be doing a couple more videos...perhaps this weekend or sometime during an evening this week. I will try to show the EL and perhaps mount the camera in front of the Acela to show its trip around the layout.
Thanks,
Alan
I had a couple of folks email me concerning what the exact camera I used. First, it is not a GoPro. I had one of those and returned it to the store. There were several reasons but the prime one was the software didn't work well with my operating system at the time. The camera I used for this video is one I purchased on closeout at my local Walmart for only $35.00. It is the Ion Pro Wifi Lite. The full retail is somewhere just south of $200.00 so the price I paid was a real bargain. You may want to check to see if your local store still has these since all Ion cameras they had are being blown out at similar discounts. The camera takes takes both video and stills which are adjustable up to 14megapixels.
Alan
Very cool!

Great video and layout. Just wish I has that much space.
very nice thank you
Wow! Alan, your layout looks even better than I expected and I've been a fan of your photo posts for years!

Alan nice trip like the long views looking up toward the skyscrapers
only comment is that your layout like mine is designed to be viewed from the front.
viewing the other or insides have little or no details, meaning that the realistic facade brick work and such is revealed as flat not 3D in the tunnels.
i am not suggesting that you change anything, i 'm not!
Guys...thanks again!
Alan: I am working on foam core inserts with block detail to be put/slid inside the "tunnel" areas. The ceilings of the tunnels will either have a concrete look or will also have printed block detail..
Alan
WOW Alan. After seeing this video, now I must come and visit. Maybe I can bring that new Huge Double Decker bridge with me that you inquired about.
As usual your abilities are outstanding from building your layout to taking photos and now videos.

That was a great train ride Al, thank you. I like the whole over-and-under city scene idea. Wonderful overall effect of a busy railroad.
I really enjoyed the ride, it was great and it is giving me some ideas for my layout.
I would like to see the subway you had running.
Thanks
Very nice layout and video.
SUPER AWESOME!!!
Alan I really love your layout and especially the camera in the engine How much dies the camera cost to put in the engine and where can it be purchased, I'm really interested!
Alan
Alan, were you pushing a camera on a flat car (your ion pro lite) around your layout? Must say it rode very smooth and still. Great video, and hope to do a similar video of my refinery and Coke retort plant.
Alan i had a cousin who saw the layout running and then looked under the top surface. He wasn't happy until he looked under the curtain.
He had to see the wiring i guess he could not accept the magic. your video is a look behind the curtain in some places.
Wow Alan what an excellent video of your awesome layout!
I am amazed at the clarity of your "inexpensive" camera.
Your layout is immense and so full of details, you really follow JCL's philosophy "always leave them wanting more".
Maybe it's because the new Star Wars movie is just out, but did anyone else think the speeding Acela sounded like the TIE fighters chasing Luke?
Congratulations on a job well done!
TJ
I had a 2nd run at the video this AM.....more spectacular the 2nd time.....the Acela whizzing by was breath-takingly real!
Alan.....if that was an MTH engine, do you have an odometer reading or know the SMPH you were traveling at....a lap was about 4:45.
Could you post a still of the engine with the car carrying you camera....a visual on how you did it would be very helpful.
...and again...a spectacular ride!
Peter
World class layout. Thank you for sharing
Absolutely outstanding Alan. I am in complete awe of your layout. Thanks for posting the ride.
