Browsing history is not the issue with me. In fact, it's only worked maybe once or twice, when it was first introduced. I tried to give it some time before I commented.

Yes, that is the issue.
This feature relies on having your browsing history available so your web browser knows where you left off reading in any given thread. If your browser is set to clear your browsing history when you close it, then this feature won't work.
Browsing history can be turned on or off in Firefox. I don't know about the latest versions of Internet Exploder.
It's not the issue with me because it's not turned off. It's working fine. It only clears when I tell it to.
