Yeah, I live about 35 minutes north of there; been to Foley's layout many times

(been to Foley many times - it's on the way to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama,

places that I've been visiting since childhood; about 45 minutes from Downtown Mobile).

The layout uses DCS (used to use TMCC also, but not so much any more); I had an MTH

loco reset to Factory Defaults there. The layout used to be in Montgomery, Alabama,

and was featured in OGR several years ago. It was donated to the City of Foley, and the

city actually built a new building for it, pretty much attached to the Railroad Museum,

which is the old Louisville and Nashville station (old Foley Branch). The layout was

changed dramatically when moved from Montgomery.

The passenger shed at the layout is a pretty good representation of the old L&N passen-

get train shed on the Alabama River in Montgomery; the (real) structure is still there.

I used to pass the Foley L&N station when I was a kid on the way to swim in the Gulf;

there were often scads of yellow reefers spotted there (mostly FGE, I believe); this

would have been in the early 50's through late 60's.

The L&N SW600 in the photos was donated to the museum by a friend of mine.

See O Gauge Railroading Run 237, August/September 2009 for a good story with photos by Jim Barrett telling the story of the layout in its new home.  Also, be watching for information on the Foley Train Show to be held March 22-23, 2014, at the nearby Foley Civic Center and at the Foley Railroad Museum.  This show replaces the annual Fairhope, AL, train show that had a 20 year run ending in 2012!

Carren & I were in Gulf Shores  AL.,a couple of weeks ago. Carren and sisters went shopping while my three brothers in - laws and I visited the L&N station in Foley, the model train layout is great (awesome). While there a Lady and her son 3-5 years old were visiting and the lad watched all the trains with a knowledgeable eye, I ask his mom if he had train. Her reply, oh yes more than 3, he comes here every week.

The hobby lives on.

Also visited a LHS in Pensacola, left some money and met a member of the Foley club, who invited me to join, I told him it was a little far from Rockwall. TX to visit 3 times a week

He informed me what L&N stood for when he saw I was buying L&N GP 35 (Legacy) and a piece of (L&N) rolling stock.
