While this may not be new information to everyone, last year I installed an EER Cruise Commander and railsounds in an older MTH 2-8-0 using a magnetic trigger off the tender wheels. This gave me a good syhcronized sound with the motion of the drivers, but only two chuffs per rev. When I inquired of EER about possibly adding a second magnet, they said it might work but it could cause a distortion. I recently tried a second magnet on the wheel set and the results were really good. PS, you do have to superglue the magnets because the strong magnets tend to migrate together after a few minutes of operation.
