A friend-acquaintance showed me these O-gauge boxcars of unknown origin. They have plain metal underframes and postwar Lionel bar-end trucks with no outward clues about the brand. The bodies are 2-3/8" wide and 10-1/8" long. Something I haven't seen before. Can someone identify them?

They might be KMT/AMT cars that someone replaced the frame and trucks on. The fact that the frame is unfinished and has scratch marks on the end looks to me like aluminum or plated steel that was sheared and deburred. I would remove a frame and check the inside for markings.

Could they also have been done by Kriss Model Trains.............Paul
They look like Kris Model Train cars to me.
Didn't Frank's Roundhouse use his shells?
Andy Kriswalus did offer the option of Lionel metal trucks for at least some of the time he was making the cars.
Thanks guys, looks like they are definitely Kris, something I haven't seen before. That's interesting that some were originally furnished with postwar Lionel trucks. Some quick research tells me these are descendants of AMT and Kusan. Presumably with updated graphics, since there is a BN item. What would be fair prices on these? I could maybe buy them.
If I get a chance to see them again I'll ask if I can take a look inside. Looks like the bodies have four mounting posts for the frame but with only two screws on diagonal corners. I have one old AMT car in my own collection and as I recall it didn't have any brand ID inside or out.

Ace: Those cars were made by Kris Model Trains using the original AMT molds. Here’s a link to the Kris Model Trains section of Forum Member rlplionel’s website: Click here: Kris Model Trains

Ace, Like I said the baseplate may not be original. All of my KMT cars and the ones I have seen on the auction sites have a blackened steel baseplate, bent 90 degrees at the edges for rigidity. They also have 4 screws near the corners. These evolved over the years so who knows for sure. Some of my cars have a coupler that works more like the prototype too. They don't look anything like a Lionel coupler but will mate with Lionel.

At one time, I had quite a few KMT cars, having purchased them from Andy Kriswalus when he was cleaning out. I don't think any of them had bends on the baseplate.

They were also sold without trucks.
