Gee Bob, how can you tell?
Larry I love those lights chasing down the sides.
Larry gets my vote for best toys but Patrick gets my vote for best beret and most fun!

My front-end views for this Friday, July 19th 2024 show my recently purchased Railking Imperial model (30-1866-1) of Raritan River Rail Road #20, a custom-run USRA 0-6-0 steam switcher from Forum sponsor Public Delivery Track with PS3 at $479.95. The model had no cosmetic or mechanical defects and ran smoothly right out of the box.
The Raritan River Rail Road was a 12.3 mile short line that operated in Central New Jersey between New Brunswick and South Amboy beginning in 1888. It became part of Conrail in 1980.
The RRRR bought 7 U.S. Army surplus USRA 0-6-0 steam switcher locomotives – numbers 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22 – in 1947 and ’48. They were built by Lima in 1944 and scrapped in 1954. My model – Raritan River #20 – was previously U.S. Army #4055.

Happy FeF! Here’s a front end of an R12 circa 1977 riding the el -
In the late 1970s, the MTA had the genius idea to paint many of its graffiti stained fleet with white paint, not realizing that they were just giving the local "artists" a new, clean canvas to write over (which they immediately did). The white paint scheme was quickly abandoned as a result.

Well I wasn't home on the 4th so didn't get to post my "military" trains in celebration. So making up for that, here is my USAF "minuteman" BEEP working hard around the town supplying the AF Base nearby with needed items. P.S. I am a retired AF so do have some prejudice !
Here she is moving some spare rockets up to the air defense launch sites. (It's still the cold war on my layout- set in 1950-1960)
Here she is returning some empty box cars back to the yard for return to their home railroads.
Happy Friday everyone, hope your weekend goes well.
Best Wishes
Don

The next 2 photos are of our newly acquired, MTH, Proto Sound 3 equipped, Blue Comet Locomotive.
...and, since I could again not get the OGR Forum Embed Video function to work, below is the link to my short video of our Great Northeastern Railway (GNR) 4-8-2 locomotive that will become the engine of the GNR's flagship passenger train, "The Chazzanooga Choo Choo.

My front-end views for this Friday, July 26, 2024 show my Weaver die-cast model of Maine Central Class W 2-8-0 Consolidation #501 on my 12’-by-8’ layout. The model was made in 2007. Atlas O acquired the Weaver tooling and recently announced production of 2-8-0 models with PS3 electronics and DCS for delivery later this year.
Maine Central #501 was built by Alco Schenectady in 1910 but the model’s prototype is actually a Baldwin 2-8-0 locomotive that looks similar.
Tractive effort was 37,000 pounds, locomotive weight was 198,000 pounds and total weight (loco and tender) was 348,000 pounds. #501 was retired in 1958 and is currently under restoration at the Conway Scenic Railroad in New Hampshire.

Here is a streamlined face from the Germany. A Karl Bub, Great Western, streamlined steam loco from the early post war period, likely early 1950's. Clock work with tender, very inexpensive all lithograph sheet metal construction. Typical of the toys of war torn Europe as they worked to recover their economy in the early post war period. Loco is small only about 4-5" long and even with tender is well under a foot in length. Note that it is sitting on top of a Lionel rolling stock box and does not extend the full length of the box. It is however, full 0 gauge but no hope for even being close to scale. I picked this gal up all alone so I have no idea what rolling stock might have accompanied it (it was likely a small set but I can't confirm that). Yes, the tender wheels/axles are missing, that remains a future acquisition challenge and hunt!
Happy F.E.F. Hope you have a great weekend.

@Don McErlean While my train interests lie elsewhere, I do enjoy the history/background you provide in your posts. Keep it up

Our 11 year old grandson just had his 11th birthday last Sunday. He received a new MTH GP-30 BN locomotive (QSI) from his parents. His transformer for his layout where he lives did not have enough power for his needs, but he and his brother and parents were coming to visit us on his birthday. So we bought him a completely refurbished Lionel KW transformer (the MTH Z-1000 and the lionel 80 did not operate his engine). He is very happy with the transformer and was running his BN engine on my small 027 4’ x 4’ layout in our front room.
Happy Front End Friday!!

That’s great John! Good to hear that the whole family is involved.
A few weeks ago I posted some photos of a MTH I1 double-headed with a MTH M1. You really coundn't see the I1 very well, so here are some photos of it. A real beast.

@CAPPilot- Ron, thanks for the kind words. Most appreciated. You can be assured that I also read your posts and enjoy your information on the PRR.
Don
Ron, what's the wheel configuration on your I1? Looks like a 2-10-0, - old eyes here!
Handsome beast. Am not familiar with that locomotive...
