New York Central SW8 diesel switcher #9620 is an Atlas O model (6105-2) delivered in 2001 at MSRP $349.95. It has a highly detailed diecast shell and a smooth-running mechanism with a single horizontal motor and two flywheels.
Its front end is shown in several photos and a video taken on my 10’-by-5’ layout.
Thanks for getting us started on FEF today Melgar. That’s a nice looking NYC SW8. I guess that I could say I’m keeping it in the family.
I acquired this engine from Leaping Larry when he was liquidating a friend’s collection. Like the other gems that Larry provided, it’s NOS. Lionel 6-18373 NYC S-2 Electric #125 with Train Master Command Control and Railsounds 5 and Odyssey motor. Today it’s running a Railfan trip from Grand Central Terminal to Croton Harmon yards.
My photo of the front kind .... Here's a front end photo of B&O number 476 taken this past Monday in Oakland Maryland at town's historic B&O station, now turned into a delightful museum ... complete with a research library. More pics and info will follow this Sunday on Arnold's Steam Day Sunday thread.
Happy FeF. Here’s the front end of an R17 on its way to LA. -
It looks like you have the same setup as me - a Yankees car and a Mets car (I’ve got a Chicago Cubs car too)… a friend of my brother had a photo he took of the two real cars sitting on the tracks outside Shea (I just can’t call it Citi Field).
Well with all you fellows and your very beautiful modern stuff, I have to be the guy who works in the opposite direction. How about this "old gal". The Lionel #152 0-4-0 steeple cab electric dating from 1917 but available up until about 1927. Nearly 100 years old and YES she still works although I admit I don't run her often as I am too concerned that I might burn some irreplaceable part out by accident. Headlight works as well but it needs a bulb of course. She is showing her age somewhat with a few scrapes and bruises although she has no missing parts, not even the somewhat easily lost railings and grab handles.
Here she is with her little train. The Number 901 Lake Shore gondola, available in this color from 1918-1920 and the Wabash caboose, available from 1917-1926. I know its corny but I like to think about the young person, now I expect long past, who opened their Christmas present nearly 100 years ago and was likely just thrilled with their new toy train.
Well I hope you enjoyed this little trip down "Memory Lane" . Best Wishes for a great weekend.

I have the 2 additional Yankees add on cars attached to a Mets powered car on a sidetrack. Since the Mets are out, I let my other Yankees powered car drive a mixed Yankees/Mets consist, like they did in the 2000 subway series. I’m one of those rare birds - a kid from Queens that rooted for the Yankees as well as the Mets.
Happy Front End Friday. Here's a few front ends on my attic layout from back in 2017.
Here's a video of a few of those same front ends running on the mainlines back in the day.
Ken, I've got them same wooden boats for my layout if I ever come up with the proper space for a harbor. Here's my fleet, wooden and LEGO. I also have one of those wooden kits for a lobster boat and a styrene model kit of a Coast Guard Rescue Boat.

LOL @Strap Hanger, you're not the only one . When I was a Brooklyn high schooler then college student in the early 1980s, I rooted for any and all teams in the 5 sports including NASL that represented the Tri-State area. Yes, that was sacrilege especially in ice hockey. Now that I've been in South Florida for 38 years, the only teams that I still have a heart for are the Yankees and Mets.
Now back to train related stuff , I need to catch up with all of the Front End Friday entries that I've missed. Also, one of these decades, I will finally build a layout featuring NYC area subways and commuters, whether it be O or HO. Have to use your layout and others here as the template to model after.

Look forward to seeing you do that, Kevin. I loved those plans you put together. incorporating both NY and South Florida,
Here are some front-end views of New Haven Railroad Alco RS-1 #0668. It’s an Atlas O Master model (item 6888-2) delivered in March 2004 at MSRP $429.95 with TMCC. Shown on my 10’-by-5’ model railroad.
Alco built RS-1s between 1941 and 1960. New Haven #0668 (Class DERS-1b) was delivered in 1948. I prefer how they look compared to the RS-2 and RS-3. The roof looks like one on a steam locomotive.

Thanks Joe! Most of the small fishing vessels were built by my father for his HO scale layout. I've added a few submarines and this large sailing vessel that I picked up along the way.
The centerpiece of the shipyard scene is this massive wooden ship hull. My grandmother gave this to me a few years ago, claiming that my father had made it during college either as a hobby or as part of one of his architectural design classes. If I ever figure out which ship my Dad was trying to make (a schooner? the battleship Massachusetts?), I'd like to finish it myself.
Anyways, onto your regularly scheduled Front End Friday content. Today I'm featuring my MTH EP5, one of the first command control locomotives that I ever purchased.
Here's another video from the archives: that same EP5 conducting a push around a temporary layout built over the floor of my entire second floor apartment (this was before my first permanent layout in the attic was made). Happy All Hallows Day everyone!
800 is in for maintenance, I managed to toast the motor in it, and 2 other locos that were in a consist with it for that matter. I use a NCE DCC system and inadvertently bumped the throttle the 1 position, which let the consist crawl undetected until it stalled against a safety bumper at the end of the line. That wouldn't have been a big deal, but I got distracted for several hours and started working on a home renovation project, and forgot to power off the layout, When I realized I'd left the layout on I tried moving the consist but each one of those locos would shut down, anything 4 or higher on the throttle. Initially I thought I had fried its DCC board, but after troubleshooting determined it is the motors that are damaged. Lesson learned, never leave my layout unattended. Now to try to find some Pittman 8413B668 or equivalent 12v motors.
