A pretty amazing story of determination and grit in the revival of steam in India, with the only assets being old hands and younger ones working together, in many cases, working without prints, drawings etc. But what is the deal with the jewelry? The PRR high mounted headlight encircled with a wreath. Its as if the engines are given offerings or bling that is really over the top...sort of reminds me of a Christmas Tree.  But definitely better than these engines rusting back to dust in my book. Pretty remarkable efforts.

In this country in the steam era RR's used to decorate steamers all the time for special events. New Haven decorated thier last steamer a 2-8-2 for fan trips in a paint scheme it never wore in normal service. RF&P decorated a steamer for a Shriner event that would give the Indian steamers a run for the money.
Even earlier in this country most steamers were ornately decorated and very individual. Engineers commissioned artists to paint elaborate murals on the sides of thier big oil lamps.
