Now THAT is what three cylinder steam locomotives are supposed to sound like!  GREAT video.

I grew up watching and listening to those. There is nothing like the sight and sound of a spam-can to get the blood flowing.

The best sounding three cylinder steam locomotive I have ever witnessed at trackside, was the German 44 class 2-10-0, specifically #44-0093-3 (back in mid February 1998). The 44 class where the biggest and heaviest locomotives Germany had, and were too big to leave the country, as the two cylinder Kriegsloks (class 50) did.

Somebody please post some videos of the German class 44s!  Thanks in advance.

The annual steam festival weekend is coming up at the end of  the month at my local steam railway. They normally have a couple of 44's there. If they are running on that weekend, I'll see what I can do for you.

That would be great, thanks.

I shot video of 44-0093-3 during the "Kali-Plandampf" of February 1998. I remember the last time we chased #44-0093-3 was on the afternoon of February 15, 1998, as she ascended the mountain grade to Oberhof (ski area). Sounded like a 747 comming up the mountain at track speed! VERY impressive machine.
