After York my wife and I stopped over in Hagerstown, MD before heading back to OH. On Sunday morning we did some shopping at the Hagerstown Premium Outlets and then visited the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum which is located next to the CSX Hagerstown Yards.

Links to the photos I took can be found in the "What's New" box on my website.

Bill,

Thanks for bringing back some good memories! The museum's HO layout and I go WAY back to the days when the layout was built by the Gaithersburg (MD) Model Railroad Society. It was located in the Mills House, across from the Fire Museum and former B&O Main about a block down East Diamond Ave. from the train station and about a block down the other direction from the current location of Engine House Hobbies. For a more familiar landmark, it was about 2 doors down from the famous "Roy's Place" Restaurant.

I remember that layout, from the beginning, with just a temporary oval of track running in a circle to the layout you see today. Just about my entire HO collection plied the rails on that layout, and most pieces have not seen a live track since the layout was torn down and moved to Hagerstown, about 8-10 years ago. I haven't seen the layout since it was in Gaithersburg, on the last day it was open to the public. The last time I ran a train on that layout was about a month before the last day. I think it would be safe to say that I'd still be in HO if that layout hadn't moved to Hagerstown.
