Has my time to acquire a scale Lionel Legacy Pere Marquette Berkshire passed?

Hi, Daniel.  You may need to hunt for quite a while but they do show up on e-bay now and then.  I found my PM1225 last May and was lucky enough to find it with a matching tender, new at my favorite LHS.  I did get a discount from retail but I don't remember how much.  When I went for the scale P.E. tender a few months ago I ended up getting it for under $390 when I expected about $430.  So, they are still out there.

 

To answer your question though, I'm thinking it is going to run you in the neighborhood of $1400, but you could do better.

 

Do you already have Legacy?

tonystraintown.com shows the tender.

 

No guarantees that the websites are updated, I'd give them each a call, maybe you'll get lucky. Post it on the "wanted forum" the will help get some feelers out.

If RickO's sources end up being dead ends, try posting an ad on the Want To Buy forum here. Dealers read these and one of them may have it. This is a great locomotive...well worth hunting for. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the information!  I woudl like to get into the Legacy system, and I now have a bogey for how much to set aside.  I'll try the vendors listed first, and continue to monitor ebay as well.

Bob, I agree with your comments. The continued interest in the PE movie and the scale PE passenger cars did a good deal to drive up demand for the 1225. Not to mention Rich Melvin's voice on the 765.

While I agree that the PM 1225's connection to the Polar Express and Rich's voice in the 765 are definite perks to owing these models, I think their desirability comes much more from the fact that the prototypes still exist and can still be seen running (making them much more attractive than a model of an engine that saw the scrapper's torch 50+ years ago).

 

Good luck in your hunt, Daniel.  I think that if you look hard enough, you will find one of these great engines.

I haven't been following the demand for the PM 1225.   I'm glad I have one now.  Too bad I didn't get 765 too.  What a lash up.

Such a doubleheader can be seen in this video.

 

A lot of muscle there.  I thought I had read somewhere that there had been a prototypical lash up of these engines at one point.  That would have been something to see.  Thanks for the video link. I'm sure this will motivate Daniel to keep searching.
