I'm having trouble uploading a video for and item I want to sell. When ever I try to upload it, I get a message that the file is too big. The video is only 1 minute long, and a second video is only 20 seconds long. I can not upload either one of them.

Yet I see other who have longer videos on the form. What do I need to do to fix this?

Thanks

RAY

It is an MP4 file, 34 seconds long.

Hi Ray: I would like to run a test.  Please e-mail me your mp4 files.  Check my profile for e-mail.

I have loaded files with and with out YT. both processes work. Below is a video, made with default mov.    Give it in  few seconds to finish loading. 14.88 MB / I just check, this video plays as a mov. formatting.  It works just fine.......

The data file size of a video is dependent on three things:

  1. The size of the video frame in pixels.
    Full HD at 1920 x 1080?
    720p HD at 1280 x 720 pixels?
SD (Standard Definition) at 720 x 480 pixels?
  2. The amount of Data Compression used when making the file.
This could also be called the "Quality" setting in some video programs.
Lower quality settings result in smaller data files because the video data stream is compressed more.
  3. The Data Compression format chosen.
Is it MP4, H.264, mov, wmv, avi, etc.

Generally speaking, a video for use within a thread here does not need to be full 1920 x 1080 HD. 720p (1280 x 720) or even SD at 720 x 480 would be OK. Processing the video at a smaller frame size will cut the file size tremendously.

A "Medium" quality setting should be fine for something posted here.

The most efficient compression scheme is currently H.264. Next would be mp4.

Process your video file using these settings and the file size will drop. You cannot just upload a video directly from your phone or tablet. That's a full 1920 x 1080 HD file at a high quality setting, resulting in a HUGE file, as you have seen.

The other option is to set up your own YouTube channel, upload the video to YouTube and then EMBED it here.

Hi Ray: If you are going to use YouTube, I would suggest, Upload as unlisted.  This means that the the OGR Members can see your video along with non-members.  Private requires a specific e-mail address.

YouTube Upload Settings

Note: I upload all my videos as private, than Publish as "Public" / This gives me time to set up the thumbnail. monetize , description, tags and test run the video,

Gary: Hope this helps and good luck.
