I took out my 2001 Gantry Crane with magnet reissue after it's sat in it's box for the last 15 years.  I was finally able to find a NOS crane commander.  Of course I first had to disassemble the motors and replace the cement masquerading as grease, but that wasn't nearly as difficult as I'd feared - pretty easy actually.

The crane commander has suddenly made this one very cool accessory - so much more so than the lever controls, particularly since you can easily speed up and slow down movement.  The Cab2 controls (or Cab1 for that matter) aren't as intuitive as the new crane car and I wish there were sounds with it, but this is now very cool indeed.  I may even try to retrofit motorized movement along the track as I've seen others do.   The crane commander installation was tedious but not overly difficult.  As with other ERR boards I find using the jumper so much easier than their "soft set" which usually takes me many tries to get correct.  But once done it's an awesome upgrade.  It's a shame it's not available any longer. It really adds A LOT to the no command control versions of this gantry crane.

But I'm curious if there is a source for just the operating bucket that other versions of the gantry crane had?  It would be a snap to make a plug in the wire coming out of the cab to swap back and forth between the magnet and the bucket.

But AC vs DC will make a difference here will it not?  I think the originals were AC but these newer ones like the 2001 version I have are DC for the magnet/bucket.  And if I'm going to interchange them and currently have a DC magnet I think I need to stick with a current version DC bucket.

I've found the bucket from the MTH 30-9043 RailKing Operating Coaling Tower which was mentioned above (although the photo I think is from the "prototype/original" American Flyer coal loader).  Does anyone know if this bucket would work electrically if simply connected to the wire coming from the cab currently powering the magnet on my 2001 282R Gantry Crane reissue?
