I was going though my parts pile and came across a motor that I cannot positively identify. It is a metal framed four wheel drive motor. It has a two position e-unit, and a liquid smoke unit. It also has a ballast weight mounted in between the motor's side pieces, just below the e-unit. One possibility is a 247. Others are 243 and 244. I am guessing it's a 247 because I think I've parted at least one of those out.

Here are some pictures.

Thanks guys. I had a very similar motor, the main difference being the absence of the weight in between the side pieces. Do you know which engine(s) took that motor? I guess the 243 and 244?

I used that motor to build an engine, using a blue modern era Lionel "Scout" shell, numbered 1989. I replaced the two position e-unit with a three position e-unit that had a short handle facing down. The balance of the parts were also postwar.

According to the postwar Lionel parts sheets, all three used the same smoke unit, but the motor part numbers were different. There are no explosion diagrams for these engines (that I know of).
