Help with Lionel Superliner Diner

Hi Wood,

I did this a while back, if I remember correctly make sure the truck sides aren't hitting the body when you're trying to slide the insides out. Keep the trucks straight.

Thanks Alex, I got that covered.  I have held the trucks in line with the body.  No progress.

I really want to figure this out so I can do this in the future but, I don't want to damage this car so if I can't figure it out would you possibly repair it for me???  Will gladly pay for your time. 

Alex, Thanks for the parts diagram.  I may need some of them.  One of the end of train red lights isn't working and will need a new harness..

So I am correct that you have to slide the Body Frame and the cabin out at the same time?

Very hard for me to remember because i did this about 2 years ago. I think you will have to slide both at the same time, also you might have to pull the shell open the same time your sliding out the guts. An extra set of hands might help.

Check and make sure none of the boards came loose, in the past the boards would come loose. Just make sure they are seated

Thanks Alex, Just what I needed - Somebody to talk to!!!  I found a way to remove one truck on the end and it just slid right out the opposite side.   Now to find out what is wrong with the electronics.

That's great, check and make sure all boards are seated, then check the wires going from the trucks to inside the the car. Those usually fray first

Lights are working.  The circuit board had a gouge and I ran a wire to connect the switch to what looks like a series of 4 resistors, I just followed the path on the board.  On to rail sounds..

Status:  I have power going to the circuit board. I removed all add-on boards and carefully reinserted fully.  I repaired two loose plugs on the board by re-soldering the plug connectors.  No luck..  I am missing something.   Back at it tomorrow.

Wood reprogram it to a new ID number, then try it

Same here as regards me. I have malfunctioning sounds in my NYC diner so I'll be interested to hear what you diagnose as the illness and cure!

I'm off to work and will try to reprogram around 6-7 tonight.

Good luck with the sounds, Wood. Alex is an immense help. It has been interesting following your progress.

Here is where I am - all connections checked, power to the board, antenna connected to shell.  No reaction to Legacy.  No sound at all.  Tried switching "program and run switch" back and forth.  I can not reprogram.  The shell is off the body, but the antenna is connected. 

I am at the end of my ability to diagnose so I am thinking of removing the board and sending it to someone more experienced then I.  If I remove the board and send it out can it be diagnosed? I checked on parts and the motherboard and the Rail sounds power supply is still available.  The radio receiver is unavailable and the station sounds board is a "must call Lionel". 

Any suggestions....
