horn inop

i have a 8164 add on green penn diesel car-the horn doesnt work-i receive a tiny noise after hitting the activation button on the transformer--any way to check it to see if the activation board is inop or the speaker-i suspect that the board is defective-is there a someone who sells a replacement board???

If you get any noise from the speaker, it is probably OK. If you are using a postwar style transformer, (1033, RW, LW, KW, ZW, etc.) move the whistle lever or button only half way. Try reversing the leads to the track. If still nothing, the board is bad. They do go bad after about 30 years, replace it. They are not expensive, about 20.00.
