So I bought this "General style" baggage car yesterday at the Mt. Hope train show yesterday (GREAT show, by the way) and the DC motor powered air whistle does not activate from either A-U or D-U terminals on my ZW. Actually, it does activate in the mid position of the switch, but has that typical half-wave DC growl that we all know and love - with "full switch", nothing - nadda - zip. This same ZW activates 4 other PW tender whistles (6020W, etc.) 100% reliably, strong and clear, no problems at all.
This baggage car whistle activates VERY weakly from my CW-80, most of the time. It activates solidly, 100% of the time from my ZW when I string a 6-5906 whistle button in series with the hot lead.
So my conclusion is that the little board shown in this pic
is just not sensitive to the DC component coming from the ZW, or even the CW-80. Has anybody found/discovered/invented a mod for this type of board that would improve it's sensitivity to whistle activation from a ZW?
