MS Excel here, nothing fancy.
Well after using it for a week it is working. For some reason I can not import my Train Tracker 5.0 data into the program ( I have tried with a flash drive and a CD disc I burned with the data in but Train Minder does not accept it). I have spent a week loading in only half of my Weaver fleet and all of my Lionel fleet. I do not look forward to loading in all the MTH and Atlas-O items manually as I figure it will take a few months ( I have a large HO fleet too).
If I had realized the difficulties facing me I would not have bought this product. I still have TT 5.0 on my wife's computer but sooner or later that one will go poof! Then she gets a new computer.
I just use Excel on my computer
Well, I bought Train Tracker years ago and soon found it abandoned. The same person then went on to start and abandon Train Minder. As far as I'm concerned they've both been sucker plays. But why would a guy put the energy into creating the program only to abandon it. It doesn't make business sense, but it's also a big waste of personal time to put it together- well, it would be for me. Anyway, I was able print out my database from TrainTracker and laboriously enter it into MiTrains. As of today I have 994 items listed, and I printed out a copy for my insurance company. I have double backups to insure my hours of data entry.
I had trouble downloading their files and updates until I figured out how to unblock these files on my email.
so far I'm happy with it. Lou is quite responsive though I think he thinks I'm somewhat of a computer idiot.

I've got trains?
I used to rely on my memory but that seems to not so reliable lately. Guess I will have to take an inventory sometime. Not exactly looking forward to that.

Does any know how to export data from TrainTracker 5.5? The information in Help says that there is an export function on the Tools menu but it does not show up on my version.
I am satified with Yard Office. Will allow you to make reports if you buy the full version. The freeware version is good enough to keep an accurate record. I also still use excel to keep track also. You can add pictures of your rollingstock in Yard Office also.
Still using Access (2007) even though I haven't been teaching for several years. Did make some minor modifications to the macro-driven front end, but still trying to figure out the VB code to create a clean "push-button" method of importing the photos. I work on it periodically when I have spare time.
mine go around in a circle. if i'm patient, they'll come back by....pretty easy to keep track of them.
I have a spreadsheet and have tried repeatedly to keep it up to date, but for whatever reason I am not able to. At this point it is about 80% complete, and nearly all of the cars on the layout are inventoried with car cards for operation printed. I've been on a bit of a buying spree recently. All of the new additions have been left in their boxes, until I can catch up.

I use an OpenOffce spreadsheet for my inventory, although I have played around with the Openoffice database program.

Same here. When my wife and I made our wills (no, we're not checking out any time soon, but our financial adviser recommended it), the lawyer said I should have an itemized list of my collection.
The collection isn't so huge that I've ever felt the need for any kind of relational database. The OO spreadsheet is plenty for me.
