How does your Lionel 1927060 Union Pacific Challenger 2-pack Add-On Set look?  The name stripes on my set are buckled down the side. It is like what happened with the Southern Pacific 21" passenger cars.

The glue does not release easily, so re-aligning the "Pullman" name stripe may be impossible.  The Dome cars is perfect and has a short Stripe added with the "Union Pacific" name.

Please post your pictures of the UP Challenger Pullman.  Mine could have been damaged in shipping, so I am looking to compare it to others.

Sincerely, John Rowlen

Thanks John I am off my foot so did not look closely at the cars.  Because of your post I took a second look and both sides of the car had loose signs.  I tried my daughter's old hair drier to heat and move the sign but the glue was still sticky.  I pried up the signs and used Duco Plastic Model Cement and pushed down from the center out.  I used the hair drier again and used more pressure from the center out and the sign is now in place.  I think anyone can fix the signs and if you had to pay for shipping back to Lionel I would choose do it yourself to save money.

There is no way that "bubble" could have occurred due to shipping.

Bruce, I am curious. Did you lift off the strip completely or if not, were you able to see what is behind that strip. Just wondering if it was lettered for something else. No reason why the strip was needed unless it was to cover up a mistake.

If this was a Budd car with the fluting extending down to the windows then a strip would be appropiate but Pullman Statndard cars have a space in the fluting for the lettering.

It’s a Budd car. The flutes carry down to the windows.  As far as I can think of, the UP Pacific series, the sunset Ltd and the Canadian had the full Length letter boards that were smooth.  There might be a few others, but most everyone else just has the letter board over the flutes for the length of the RR name, and the small “pullman” markings above the doors.

Did Budd make Pullman cars? Turns out they did. Live and learn.

I'm confused. Do you mean cars simply lettered "Pullman" on the side?

Or are you thinking/saying Budd actually produced Pullman designed cars passenger cars instead of Pullman themselves? (Which I don't think they did)

I didn't think Budd produced cars lettered for Pullman either but after a little research its turns out they did. The car Lionel made is actually pretty accurate though I have not found the car lettered "Pacific Harbor". I have found a number of cars lettered "Pacific xxxxxx" and they are all sleeper cars made by Budd and with Pullman in the letter board. Further reading about the Pullman company shows they had to divest themselves of owning all the companies that made sleeping cars as well as separating the branch that made the cars from the company that staffed the cars. Due to restrictions on posting pictures you will have to find those cars yourself but they are out there.

These links will help.
