I have a CMX track cleaning car because my knees are starting to give me trouble… and that's not good on the big carpet central. I like it a lot, but often wonder how fast or slow others run their cleaning cars. The reason I ask is because my pads have a tendency to wear off the material if I go, say, speed step 3 on the Cab-2. The wear is less at restricted speed. I probably have some misaligned track somewhere… sometimes FT does that.

The San Diego 3-Railers use a metal block and a car made out of metal plate, we run two Williams diesels at 11 volts.
Mine run at 20SMPH.
I run a pair of Dennis' home made cars, one with a scotchbrite pad and one with paper towel pad. If I have run them recently I just run the paper towel car.
I run my track cleaning car very slow, as slow as I can get it.

Never use one, as it hits too many scenery and station platform parts. I prefer a block of wood with a soft cotton rag wrapped around it, moistened with denatured alcohol.
I use the Trackman 2000, and I run it around at about 30 scale MPH. I have purple Scotch-Brite on it, that works the best of the types for me.
