Hey all, new to the hobby but I was hoping to add power to some of my boxcars. Is there any easy way to switch out the trucks to pull power from the tracks? TIA!

Your question is not clear. Are you wanting to add powered (motorized) trucks?
Or are you just wanting to add a roller pickup to the car to provide power to something?

Just adding power, not motorized
The Lionel 9050-150 collector assembly just snaps in to most plastic Lionel trucks made since 1970.

Thanks!
You'll also need the axle wipers to pick up power from the wheels on those plastic trucks.

Included on the 9050-150.
Lighted caboose trucks.

Right you are Rob, I forgot they were included on those plastic pickups. I've not used those in years, but I still have a couple in the parts box.

This is what I would do. Lighted PW cabooses with crappy bodies can be found for $5.00 or so.
Bob182, What is your plan for powered boxcars???

Looking to make my own Holiday train, and want to see if it makes sense to pull power from the track instead of using batteries to power the lights
It most surely makes sense to use track power if possible! That would be especially true if you have multiple LEDs drawing any significant power.

But what to use/do if trucks are METAL...not plastic?
Lionel and MTH both make roller kits that adapt some of their trucks to pickups.
Thanks John...was hoping that might be the case.....I'll see if I can locate a P/N...Appreciate the reply.

For the Most common postwar metal trucks, you would use the 481-10.
