I know a speaker may be in order or a new personality sound file if available, but is there an easier way to increase the volume of the sounds that I am missing.  Yes, I have Barry's book, haven't dug into It for this question, and yes in the remote the sound settings are all 100.  I must be getting old and more hard of hearing.  I noticed on the remote a volume plus button (number 2).  Would that exceed the 100 settings I have in the engine's menu, come back on to the same level after turning off the trains then back on again.  Nothing major, just asking...

Thank you!!

Any chance your battery is low or defective? I have an 0-8-0 MTH Premier switcher that always has low volume sounds. After many years I put a new battery in and the volume was much improved and up to what I would consider normal. The battery might have been bad since I bought the engine new. It seems to have enough juice to rewrite the engine to DCS and do everything it was supposed to do except maintain the sound volume. I want to get a BCR to replace the battery because the blue battery pack that I replaced the green pack with does not fit. I remember reading something posted elsewhere by GGG that said something to the effect that if you can't raise the volume using the handheld then the battery might well be the problem.

Check the MTH site for the part used in your engine. A replacement speaker may or may not help depending on what is in there now.

I just picked up a speaker from MTH at York that I was told is an upgrade for their old speakers. Its a Veco 4 ohm speaker. Before swapping out the speaker I tested the loudness if the existing speaker using an App on my tablet. It measured between 87 and 88 db spl. The replacement measured 81 db with the tablet and engine in the same location. That amounts to 1/4 of the volume. Every 3 db is roughly a doubling or halving of power.

Needless to say 20 bucks down the drain. These might work as sinkers.
