I'm on the verge of doing the same. However, I'm going to need a bigger dose of that magic dust for my CEO (wife) than you seem to have used.

You know that 'Til death do you part' - it would be coming up fairly soon if I tried that.

No problem with Portals - just check whether it is a load bearing wall and install appropriate headers and studs.
