At some point, anticipating moving, all my train stuff went into boxes.  Life has been a whirlwind, and I've lost track of the train world.  Now I find myself in a house double the size, and two rooms that need train layouts.  One room is going to be a workshop, about 20x12 or more, and is the upper open truss part of a 3 car garage.  I'm building a storage cabinet all along the outside walls with a contiguous surface that will be available for trains.  The other room is currently a 12x12 wine cellar that is jam packed with wine storage racks.

It's going to be hard, as there is so much infrastructure to build, but this is the kind of fun I've been needing for a very long time.

Are you planning to put the layout inside the trussed area? If so, I suggest you contact a structural engineer and see what kind of load the trusses will take. Above all, do not modify the trusses in anyway shape of form until you do talk to a structural engineer! The trusses are designed and built to certain loads. Changing those parameters can lead to structural failure.
