I thought my eyes were playing tricks

I saw those in an RFD-TV "Trains and Locomotives" show about the NRHS convention in Roanoke.  It threw me too; I'm glad you posted that because I too was SURE they were ACL units...

They leased with ACL in 1958 I believe...RF&P in 1957 possibly....

Thanks for the pic's Chris . I did get a number off the engine it was 572 just an A and B unit. It was the RFD -TV episode Mike was talking about.
I kind of did a double take because they did look like E-7's but I guess E-6's are close enough.

That's some rare footage. I've produced eight videos of N&W in the 1950's and in all the film I've had, there is only one shot of leased ACL E's with the eastbound Pocahontas topping the Blue Ridge grade and passing a coal drag with a Y6. It's in Pocahontas Glory Vol. 7 and was shot in the summer of 1958.

Your welcome David.  I never knew about the leased power until I saw that shot that PanAmerican is referring to....I saw purple and figured I was seeing things....

I did a double take because I just happen to have a set of ACL E-7's and I thought darn it looks a lot like them.
And that blue looked more like B&O blue than than N&W blue.
I thought the colorization might be off on the leased ACL's because of the Tuscan cars behind it but no hamburger and that wide stripe with 572 in big letters made the light come on.Think I'll save my decals for a more worthy project(the ACL's are to nice to mess with anyway)

I went back and stopped the show mid frame(Tevo is a great thing)
It is 512 not 572 like I thought . You could see they removed the ACL sheild from the front and instead of putting Norfolk and Western on the forward end so it'd be unbroken they put Norfolk on one side of the middle door and-and Western on the other side towards the front.
