Yes, that's kind of what I figured.

I was over at Dave Minarik's Mercer Junction this past weekend and a customer came in with a 408E that he "couldn't get out of the box."  When I saw how the thing was packed, I could sure understand why this elderly fellow was having a problem.  The "box" he was referring to was a very heavy sheet metal "shell" that surrounds and secures the locomotive when it's in its cardboard-and-foam box, and four big bolts that secure the engine to the bottom steel plate.

Took Dave a good while to remove the screws that hold the metal framework together and to remove those large bolts that screw into the bottom of the locomotive.  Wow!  What truly impressive packaging!  I had no idea that MTH packaged large engines in that way, and it sure does provide a whole lot of protection.  I was impressed!

Of course, Dave went the extra step and also lubricated the engine for his customer, in addition to giving it a brief test to make sure everything worked okay.  He found one minor glitch in the mechanism that need some adjustment and he took care of it on the spot.  Perfect example of one BIG reason for sticking with your local hobby shop!

Allan; I have to agree with you 100% in regards to Dave @ Mercer Junction. I've bought several engines from him & he always lubes, oils, & tests run them. Great customer service. I had a problem one time & asked for help on the forum. Dave saw the post and called me on his day off to help me. How can you beat that. I hope to see his store someday but it is over 8 hours away.
