I think you paid a correct value for that piece in its condition. It's a lower priced Lionel steam engine from 1991 and it can pull a decent amount, maybe 10 cars or so. Since it's from the lower end line, it can negotiate O-27 curves.

Did you get the product number right? I put that into Lionel's product locator and it said "No Products Found". You are right: mystery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Harry, the reason the product doesn't appear is because Lionel's website for product history only goes back to 2000.

The engine number is 18620, from 1991 Book 2.

When new, it was around $200.
