Rather than hijack another thread about computers, iPhones, and tablets I thought it better to ask afresh.

Two days ago my older iMac suddenly won't export photos - when I try to upload to the forum, I now get 'Plug-in Failed' when I hit upload.   Have asked several friends here but no one has any ideas. I did run disc utility 'permission repair' or similar, rebooted, but still no change.

I have a recent OS X 10.7.5 install purchased from Apple but am an Apple novice.

Any ideas please?

Sam, you have iPhoto.  You must be able, I'm sure, to drag a photo from iPhoto onto your desktop.  Once it's on your desktop, go to the Forum.  When you create your post, can you click the green plus sign, "Add Attachments?"  What happens then?  (You should see a menu where you can highlight "desktop" at which point you'll see a sub-menu showing everything on your desktop and, by extension, your photo you want to upload.)  Is that when you're getting this "Plug In " failure?  I don't believe that should be an issue of you try to import photos that way.

Thanks guys for the input. Ralph's wife wrote with some good suggestions but I think we've found the problem - My wife's two PCs have been getting knocked offline quite a bit since my problems started so we called Charter this morning and the tech ascertained that our signal into our home is weak and probably causing the problems. When I mentioned that my connection appears solid but that I am using an older Mac she said that the Macs are able to self adjust and compensate for poor signal. Also said that is probably why I can't upload photos.

A Charter tech is due here shortly to correct the signal issue and I'll let you know what happens.

The Charter guy determined that our Netgear 600 router was going out. I replaced it (on the 2nd to last day of warranty) and now the wife's computers are working fine. Was still having the issue and last night I uninstalled Flash per Ralph's wife' suggestion and reloaded it as well as Java. No improvement.

Young Josh at the club meeting last evening asked his dad when he picked him up what he thought. He's a tech for our local hospital and he suggested trying G. Chrome instead of Safari. I did and now we're back in business!

Still have no idea of the problem and I've used Safari for many years at the advice of several knowledgeable computer friends as well as Rich's here on the Forum...

Just a thought, but you might wish to consider updating your OS to a more current version too. OS X 10.9 is the current version, and the upgrade from 10.8 was free from Apple. (I'm not 100% sure if it's free from 10.7.5 though.)

Do you regularly apply all of the software updates from Apple?

I use Safari without any problems (Currently version 7.0) when uploading pictures and/or videos.

I don't think my Mac will support anything newer as this is an older machine (2006?)

The original HD went out several months ago and was replaced with a previously used one and I purchased  the OS from Apple. Was told that this was the latest available for mine.

Have OSX Version 10.7.5

2.16 GHz Intel core 2 duo

Overall I'm very pleased with it and am still learning different ways of doing things. It's a 24" iMac and I like the large screen for these old eyes!
