Wow, it seems like only yesterday that I was watching repainted locos and rolling stock, into the Amtrak arrow. That was over forty years ago. Two of the photos i took with my Miranda SLR.

First one I've seen. it's to bad more of these don't exist. Also covers tunnel Tuesday. Do you know the location?
Wow, what is the train-set at about 1:20 into the film ?

I thought as much, but it doesn't look like the turbo liners i recall seeing in old photos.

Could that be the infamous "City of New Orleans" ? I can just hear Arlo Guthrie now.

Dan, there were two different-looking series of Turboliners.
The second group, that was rebuilt and lasted longest on New York State trains were built at San Diego by Rohr. They did not look French like the one in the photos here. Those might be the ones you recall.
I was on the Engineers' Extra Board at San Bernardino when the second group was built, and I caught two delivery trips -- one from San Diego to San Bernardino and another from San Bernardino to Barstow. They were interesting, but I was not offered the seat. One of the delivery stipulations was that only Rohr-trained employees of the railroad were to run the equipment, thus our Road Foreman of Engines ran the equipment.

By any chance, were you thinking of the United Aircraft Turbo Train?

That is obviously a former Seaboard Coast Line E unit.

Great topic Brian! Love all the pics and videos. I've got this Larry Fisher print hanging in my family room where I see it everyday. It was my inspiration to create this:
The first clip was taken on the east shore of the Hudson River, and shows a north bound Amtrak E8 powered Adirondack

Former CBQ E8 9968. One of the E8s that got stainless side panels. If the nose was painted a little more neatly, that would have been a sharp paint scheme.
