I have a 30-2436-1 NS SD60 that the remote won't find anymore. It worked for a little while in command mode then one day I go to run it and the remote said "engine not on track" so I deleted the engine from the remote (it was under address 21) and now when I try to add it, the remote will say "no engine to add" The engine works fine in conventional and has a fully charged battery. Also the engine just recently got back from getting a speaker change. I'm using a MRC pure power transformer to run the engine on Lionel fastrack.

Matt,
Is you're using DCS 4.10 or newer, you could try to recover the engine. From pages 174-175 of There DCS Companion 3rd Edition:
Engine ID# Outside Normal Range
If a DCS engine's DCS ID# becomes set outside of the normal range (refer to Appendix E: The Truth About DCS Engine ID Numbers, for an explanation of DCS ID#s), it will not respond to any command from the DCS Remote. Fortunately, DCS 4.10 provides a method to recover such engines.
The DCS 4.10 feature Recover Engine menu item allows the DCS operator to potentially recover a DCS engine's address that has been set outside of the normal usable range. To reset a DCS engine with a DCS ID# that is outside of the normal range, proceed as follows:
- Set the engine on a piece of track controlled by TIU #1. The Recover Engine feature only works with TIU #1. You must not have any other engines powered up on any track connected to TIU #1 while attempting to recover an engine
- Apply power to TIU #1.
- Power on the DCS Remote.
- Press the Menu button and use the thumbwheel to scroll to SYSTEM. Press the thumbwheel to select it.
- Use the thumbwheel to scroll to ENGINE SETUP. Press the thumbwheel to select it.
- Use the thumbwheel to scroll to RECOVER ENGINE. Press the thumbwheel to select it.
- The remote will display "Attempting Recovery of Lost Engine, Please wait!!!"
- If the remote is able to recover the engine it will display "Engine Recovered" and return to the Engine Setup menu. The newly recovered engine will be automatically Factory Reset by the remote. (Refer to section DCS Menus, Advanced Menu earlier in this book for an explanation of the Factory Reset command).
- Turn TIU #1 off and then back on.
- The engine may now be added to the DCS remote using the ADD ENGINE command as described in section DCS Menus, System Menu earlier in this book.
- If the remote is unable to recover the engine it will display "No Engine Recovered" and then return to the Engine Setup menu. If this occurs, then there may be an issue with this particular engine. Contact your local service center or MTH for service options.
This and a whole lot more about DCS is all in MTH’s “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!" This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store! |
Thanks for the info but the remote found the engine.
