If you are new to this thread please consider posting a photo of your favorite switcher from your layout. We'd love to see what you have!

A vast majority of us who frequent this thread love those small ( and not so small ) locomotives that can perform all the tasks given by any railroad. Yep! Switchers do it all ... switching in yards, at the point of way freights, industrial switching, switching at larger passenger stations, heading a MOW train ... including pushing snow plows, switching tight curvature on city streets & harbor areas, at the point of both commuter passenger trains and long distance passenger trains.

Switcher Saturday (SwSat) welcomes your photos, videos, and information/discussion regarding switching locomotives, steam, diesel, and electric of all gauges and scales from Z - G ... and even real life 1:1 scale too! We'd be honored to have you join us by posting pics and videos of your switchers. We'd also love reading any information regarding toy, model, or prototypical switchers.

As Halloween is this coming Thursday, I mentioned in last week's edition of SwSat that it might be fun to include some Halloween photos of our switchers or switchers in Halloween scenes in this week's SwSat edition. That's why I dressed in my engineer's costume ( photo above ) for this week's edition .. LOL! Please don't feel pressured to post Halloween switcher pics if it's not your thing ... no worries ... but please do post your pics, videos, and information regarding switching locomotives. I hope everyone has a delightfully fun and safe weekend ... and Halloween too!! Keep those switchers rolling!!

Conductor Harley Janks loves him some Halloween for sure! This year he's even got his wife Edna and nephew Boris Carload in on the act. He brought the whole family to work to help celebrate Halloween as they ride through small towns switching freight cars in and out while passing out candy to children. That's Ol' Harley dressed up like a scare crow. He named his train today a ... drum roll please ... "Fright Train" ... Okay, okay that was pretty bad but I couldn't help myself .. LOL!!

New Haven Railroad Alco RS-1 #0668 is an Atlas O Master model (item 6888-2) delivered in March 2004 at MSRP $429.95 with TMCC. I prefer the look of the RS-1 to the RS-2 and RS-3 partly because the roof looks like one on a steam engine. I have an MTH Railking New Haven RS-1 on pre-order.

ALCO built RS-1s between 1941 and 1960. They were powered by a 1,000 horsepower 539T diesel engine, weighed 240,000 pounds and had a top speed of 60 mph. New Haven #0668 (Class DERS-1b) was delivered in 1948. Five New Haven RS-1s lasted into the Penn Central era that began in 1969.

Photos and video show #0668 pulling two boxcars and a caboose on my 10’-by-5’ model railroad.
