What a suprise when these shipped in earlier this week:

11-1010-1

11-1012-1

These come with Proto-Sound 2.0 and include the wire tether. Other than that, they are beautiful and probably won't be sitting around for very long.

At first, I didn't like the black painted sand domes and other trim on the 11-1012-1, but the more I look at it, it looks like a realistic tinplate locomotive, even though that seems like a contradiction in words.

In 1930 Lionel offered two 200 series freight outfits headed by a 390E. They were the 358E Work Train (211, 218, 219 and 217 cars) and the 423E Deluxe Freight Train (it came with the 211, 212, 213, 214, 215, 216 and 217 cars).

Now to connect properly with these cars the tender was a 390TX, which had 200 series trucks instead of 500 series trucks.

Here's what I did to match a MTH 390E with orange stripe to MTH 200 series freight cars. I looked around and bought a cheap 200 series TCA convention car and put those trucks on the 390T tender. They went right on! It took about 20 to 30 minutes. I used the early color 200's and that looks real nice. Terra cotta box, mojave cattle, gray gondola, orange caboose.
