Jittery Start HELP

I have a Lionel C & O Yellow Belly locomotive that was professionally converted to PS 2.I has run very well in past slow and fast and I took it out off the shelf after a few months and wanted to run it.I charged it up and put on track with no other locomotive. It operates very well at a higher speed when I get it there however it is very jittery from slow start, stop go ,stop go.Track is clean, other PS 2 engines receive signal and work fine. I checked tether and it is tight.Checked antena and all seems tight.Did a feature rest and factory reset.All features work well, smoke, bell, horn , direction.Cannot seem to find any loose wires. Have I hit a button which is causing it to start very jittery.Any advice from folks. Appreciate.AlB

How did you charge it, on the track or with a separate charger? How long did you charge it?

I took it out off the shelf after a few months and wanted to run it.

clean the center rail rollers especially the pin that goes through the roller. Since you can't take them apart I usually give the pin a shot of WD-40 and a good spin with a Dremel with a wire brush. Wipe clean. What a difference.

give the pin a shot of WD-40

Contact cleaner is a much better choice that WD-40, since it's purpose is to clean electrical contacts and WD-40's purpose io lubricate moving parts.

Thanks all. Oiled rollers AND applied good contact cleaner. Everything works great now. Funny irregular rollers on this puppy. Doesnt seem to be as much contact with track rail as other pick ups. All is well now.Thanks.Al B
