The directional lighting on my K-Line Pennsylvania Pacific has quit working. If the locomotive changes direction, the front headlight and rear marker lights stay on. The rest of the functionality of the locomotive is fine. This engine was the prewar command version (K3380-5358CC) cataloged by K-Line. Do I need to replace a board?

Try a reset. Your owner's manual should have the instructions and reset code.

What "prewar" war are you talking about. I believe it was made in the 1990's or early 2000. Pre war trains is prior to WW2.
Anyway, have you check board connections, loose wire, etc. It could be after much running something came loose. Do this after trying the re-set as mentioned above. If you don't have the instructions for re-set let me know. I might have the instructions for mine.

Think he is refering to the headlight/generator placement on the real engine and when it was modified.
FWIW, most steamers leave the front headlight on all the time, so I'm not sure there's anything wrong.
If you toggle ALT2, does the headlight go off?
I agree with John, Headlight and Tender Markers would stay on. G
If you reprogram it with the feature code Aux1 4 (steam with smoke) the headlight stays on. If you use the feature code Aux1 8 (diesel with smoke), the headlight will toggle. Your choice.

By directional lighting I'm guessing you mean the back up light on the tender. It is normal for the headlight to stay lit on a steamer and the back up light being on or off tells you what direction it's going to move. I'd start by checking the bulb in the tender.
Norton,
I believe you pinpointed the cause of my the problem. When I performed the reset, I chose Aux1 4 per the instruction manual. For what ever reason, the engine must of had feature code Aux1 8 programmed in before I reset it. I believe I will leave the settings as is for now.
Thank you for all the help.
