I started accumulating this 8-car set based on some of the rave reviews on the forum.

Wondering what other forumites are pulling these with. I believe they were sold with a conventional FA-2s but it appears K-Line made Torpedo K4 to go with them as well.  I've sold off all my conventional modern and am only running conventional in postwar.

I see a pair of Rail King FA-2s with PS2 up for auction that look like a good match, and that'd give me my much-needed excuse to get my first MTH motive power. I also see an ABA Lionel set of FA-2s with TMCC but they're older and with pullmor motors. I've developed a love for Odyssey/Cruise only with TMCC.

I have a PRR 4-6-2 in green and a GG-1 pulling other Pennsy passenger trains.  Can't think of a better option than FA-2s. Maybe a 4-6-2 in tuscan?

I'm not sure what K-Line "Fleet" passenger cars you are referring to. I have the "semi-scale" set called the "Streamliners" series. These are unlike most other "semi-scale" passenger cars in that they are not only shortened, but lowered as well. This results in making them look less toy-like, but they do look a bit small in back of a full-sized engine. My Lionel postwar Turbine engine is a perfect match-up for both size, and the fact that the "fleet of modernism" (1938-48) cars are from the same RR (PRR) and time frame.

Interesting point. I'm not a scale guy so I don't adhere purely to standards but you're definitely right on that one. I've always wondered why so many passenger sets have been made and sold with FAs rather than PAs.  My guess is that the FA was the one skinnied down for O27 operators in the PW era so it got marketed with both freight and passenger sets.

Thanks. I really like the looks of your silver GG1 with the tuscan cars. I have a tuscan GG1 and thought it would look too plain with these. I run it with silver streamliners sort of like the Congressional set.

I'm going to look for a silver GG1 with TMCC or PS2/3.

I regret that K-Line did not do this scheme in their 21" scale cars.

I also have a set of MTH RailKing semi-scale "Fleet" cars. These have lighted interiors. These are about 15" long compared with the 13" K-Line.

I don't consider those semi-scale.  But that's me.  I thought only the typical post-war inspired passenger cars were considered semi-scale.

Well, if 21" is "scale", what would you call 15"?

Alco made FP models of the diesel. These were passenger locos. Napa Valley Wine train still uses them along with others. Donauto-draft-10train-de-front

I run the K-Line 15" FOM set behind the Brunswick Green K-Line Collector Club GG-1 and think they look great together.

I also run my K-Line 15" FOM's behind my GG1's but more so w/ the Lionel Lionmaster T1.  Any Raymond Loewy designed loco should be appropriate, but so would anything you personally like to pair; it's your railroad.

There was a brief discussion of the FOM on CT.

I have the K-Line 15" FOM set but also the accompanying set, I think it was City of St Louis. Both are beautiful cars, I particularly like the square ended observation on the St Louis set.

To my eye these are scale in cross section, just are shortened. Operationally they are fun because they make it easier to run long trains... combine both the sets mentioned above and you have 14 or 15 cars.

I have the 13" Broadway Limited / Fleet of Modernism cars as well as the matching Tuscan K-line GG-1.   Great looking set, and you cant forget the nice window shades and figure silhouettes.

It's  definitely not 1:48, so yeah; semi-scale. Maybe 3/16th", 7/32cd", or 17/64th" scale might be more correct ?  One thing I found about these cars was all the wire was corroding INSIDE the plastic insulation. I replaced it all, no biggie.  Oh, and no Sakai 90° track crossings... the small dia roller can fall into a gap at the diamond and pole vault the cars 😱

That's correct. K-Line didn't do the set in 21" because Weaver models had done a seven car 21" set for the market earlier.... Not to mention the paint scheme is more costly to paint and print than regular schemes.

I am certain that if K-Line didn't go under, we would have seen a set.

What is upsetting to me is Golden Gate Depot released a 21" Heavyweight sleeper in F.O.M. a couple of years ago. Thaat car was the First to sell out in the offering. I begged Scott Mann to offer in this upcoming rerun of  heavyweight obs, rpo, dinner, and baggage in the F.O.M. scheme but alas it was to no avail!

In "real life" the "fleet" graphics disappeared when PRR went to the square end obs in 1948.

Following along Joe's suggestions, I'm now leaning away from the F units and GG-1s (since I have a set of each already) and leaning toward an S-2 Turbine.  Been looking for an excuse to buy an Imperial Rail King steam engine, and now I've got one. These look to be arriving at an LHS near me next month.  https://mthtrains.com/30-1786-1
