Tried http://ttender.com/ yet?
Mitch
Yes I did and he has no K Line parts.
H'm. Well, going strictly by the photo, would a Lionel heating element, wick and top cover fit?
I bought a Lionel smoke kit from ttender thinking it would work but the cap is the same diameter as the smoke bowl so no, it want fit.
Hmm... I have somewhere in a pile of boxes already packed for the move a few K-Line smoke units removed for upgrades. If this isn't an emergency, I'm pretty sure I have the parts you need, but it will be a couple of months...
No emergency John! I can run it smokeless for a while. Just let me know when you get settled and I would be glad to purchase them from you.
Thanks
Ping me around March 1st, I should have everything unpacked by then, and I should have the parts you need. You can have them for the cost of shipping.
Thank you very much John. I will get with you in March.
John, what is the actual name of that insulator cord that fits over the hot side of the resistor which keeps it from grounding out to the metal smoke cap?
Gunrunnerjohn, if I decided to go ahead and upgrade this k-line to a fan driven smoke unit, what would you suggest?
I use the MTH steam smoke unit, I've posted threads on the adapter plate I make to screw to the old smoke unit mounts. Turns out you can get the right height with one 1/16" piece of fiberglass sheet for the adapter so that you don't need any stack extensions. If you do a search here, you should be able to turn the thread(s) up. For some reason, search isn't working for me right now.
GUNRUNNERJOHN, do you think this smoke cap/resistor will blow out a triac and if so, what needs to be done to this cap so it want short out the triac?
I think you asked about high heat, high abrasion resistance, "cloth insulation". I've stolen it out of old coffee pots, microwaves, toasters, etc. Though its often much to fat for trains, Ive found the same size as well.
You could use another type of heat proof insulation too. You might try some fat automotive high heat wire, pull the wire out, and slip the new insulation over that wire. If you strike out there, red high heat silicone painted on will protect it (automotive).
Thanks Adriatic! I will give it a try.
