I noticed in the 2016 v2 catalog that the Hi-Rail steam engines are listed as having "O scale Kadee-compatible coupler mounting pads".
Is that accurate or was it a printing mistake? In the past only the scale wheel steam had Kadee pads. It would be great if the Hi-Rail models had that option too.

Next time someone runs a new one down at the club I'll take a look. In theory it wouldn't be that hard to put one onto the tender chassis -- just drill a couple of holes and put on a spacer plate, but it would be nice to have it there from the factory.
There's a problem when it comes to the front coupler. There have been discussions about how a scale coupler looks better up front. If it's scale or not, if it does not work in a consist, it is of no use to me no matter how good it looks. I would always prefer a KD pad on the front as well. Having a dummy up there is like having a dummie up deer!

It depends on the model Matt... I look at picking up an A5 0-4-0 and there would have been a lot of work to build up an area to mount a coupler. Certainly, there was no mounting pad out of the box. Same for my H-10 2-8-0.
Sometimes there are spare parts for these. Maybe someone could try ordering a spare 2 rail tender floor for example if the mount is included.
Did I post this in the wrong forum? I thought MTH was supposed to monitor these posts?
