Is there a way to add sounds and controls to lash-ups?  I tried an MU consisting of MTH Premier PS-3 engines, an ES44AC and an AC6000. While each locomotive individually has the same sound and controls, there are far fewer sound and controls as a lash-up. I'm most interested in adding railroad crossing sound (not an option in the lash-up) and ability to turn off/on number boards and illumination (as a lash-up these both default to "on" with no way to turn them off).  I hoped this was one of the fixes with the 4.3 software update, but to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ed,

If you're referring to soft keys for lashups, they are what they are. Every lashup gets a set of soft keys that are a subset of the entire list of soft keys, and they are the same for every lashup.

Using DCS 4.30, you can turn on and off lighting and adjust sound levels in individual lashup members, as follows:

  • With the lashup started up, press ENG and scroll to a member engine whose settings you want to modify. It will most likely be in the Inactive Engine List. Highlight it and press the thumbwheel to make it active, and repeat to bring it into the remote's window. Do not start it up!
  • Use the DCS menus and soft keys to modify the settings for the member engine.
  • Press ENG and scroll to the lashup. Select it so that it's displayed in the remote's window.
  • Press the FSV soft key to save lashup settings.

Note that any changed member engine's sound levels will be the sound levels for the member engine when it's operated as a solo engine.

Thanks for the step-by-step instructions. I previously bought your book and it helped me tremendously when I was upgrading the TIU and remote.  I also used it in setting up my lash-ups. I guess that I needed to read a little further to explore the soft key options.   I take it that these instructions are also included in the book?
