I am looking for details about what the last real Marx 027 Sets were and when were they produced? I recall seeing the cheaper sets with the rolling stock that had simulated trucks. I would like to track some sets down.

A great guy and a wonderful source of Marx Trains information.

I have scans of a 1975 Marx brochure (not mine, so I'm not at liberty to post them here), and they show a #4363 "Crusader Freight" and #7360 "Eagle Express" electric train sets and a #530 "Mechanical Freight" windup train set. All have four wheel plastic cars.
I believe I got this Meteor Battery powered Marx set - also with 4 wheel plastic cars - in 1974:
Since I'm a "Windup Guy" I don't have any examples of the 1975 electric sets, but I do have examples of the 530 windup set.
Most came with the yellow gondola as pictured on the box cover:
This set is a variation that included a green Erie flatcar instead of the normal yellow gondola:
There are also documented, legitimate variations of this set that include the Erie flat as well as the Penn Central tender and caboose in place of the normal Santa Fe cars.
I don't know exactly when the 6" tin cars were discontinued, but I know for a fact that they were included with the windup sets as late as 1972:
Hopefully some others will chime in with information on the electric and battery sets...
One more thing... the Marxtin site is an excellent source of information on Marx. You can find it HERE. Be sure to look through all the pages, Walt has done a stellar job on the site.
Now are we talking about the Quaker Oats Marx, or was there any made by the
British outfit that I think bought out/ or up the remnants from Quaker.."something-
Combey?-Marx", or is this before Quaker Oats?
The last Marx electric train sets to use the names...produced by an entity that is related to the real Marx...even through buyouts. This excludes the Horowitz operation in Miami and the Marx Tin Repros made in Elmhurst by that couple. Although those two entities did some amazing stuff.
