After reading another thread I decided to take a look at the grease on my PE. Opened up the bottom end and there was no grease to be found on the motor gears. Took care of that, cleaned everything up and back to the track.

Smoke works, sounds work (whistle & announcements) but the chuffing is barely sporadic. It actually chuffs more in reverse.

LOL, now what did I do?? Thanks!

I think there's an optical chopper in the locomotive to trigger the chuffs, take a look at that and see if it's actually working and not knocked out of alignment.

That is what mine was doing this year and it took a couple of tweaks to get it back in alignment and all has been well for this season.

The lever is towards the front of the driver set and behind the smoke unit. As the drivers turn the lever should move up and down.
