Item number 6-11253, the New Haven one from the first release.  I bought it used a couple years ago, run it some when I got it and put it away.  Now that I have a layout and need some switching done I pulled it out.  It still runs nicely, but I noticed there was a funny noise.  Come to find out the smoke fan was still on, and blows in time with the sound, even if I turn smoke off with the remote, and even is the smoke switch on the bottom is off.  And if the switch is on then it gets hot too.  This is regardless of what I try to command it with the Legacy remote.  I've tried reprogramming it and the fan still goes.  I'm at a loss of what else to do except open it up and unplug the smoke unit.  Has anyone else had this issue and knows how to fix it, or is this normal for these locomotives?

It's just the fan, not the smoke heater?  This locomotive has this smoke logic PCB, it's the board that controls the fan.

If the heater is always with the smoke switch on, and you can't turn it off with the remote, then you may have a failure of the AC Regulator.  That's the module that controls the heater, and it receives serial data from the RCDR.

FWIW, I was never happy with the performance of a similar vintage locomotive with that same Smoke Logic PCB board, so I upgraded it, really made a big difference!
