So my Legacy Ten Wheeler usually runs with no problems. However occasionally (and getting more frequent every day), while the engine is between speed step 4 and 5, the engine takes off like it’s supposed to be highballing. I’ve got 036 curves in some places so you can see my problem. I’ve hand to catch the engine multiple times to keep it from flying off the rails. I’ve reset the engine to no avail. Anyone got any ideas as to why this is happening?

Had a problem similar to this with a TMCC/Odyssey equipped engine - found that the engine was losing TMCC signal near a metal drywall corner the engine passed near. Would jerk, sometimes speed up. So I suggest you check the engines antenna for looseness that could result in a short time duration short antenna to frame.

Losing the TMCC signal won't cause the locomotive to run away, it will cause it to stop.  His symptoms are classic speed control issues, that points to either the flywheel/sensor, wiring, or the DCDS motor driver board.  With the Odyssey II driver board, if it loses the flywheel signal, it will initially take off, and in a few feet it will stop as it figures out it has no signal.  The bad part is, if it takes off on a tight curve, it could be a big problem.
