Wasn't sure where to post this question. How do you provide a link in one topic string to a different topic string? I tried copying the URL, but that didn't seem to work.
Thanks in advance.

Ed, I'm not sure what you mean by a "topic string."
The terms used here to describe elements of the forum are threads and posts. A thread is a series of posts about a certain topic. My response here is a post. The two posts together here make up a thread. I think that's what you mean, but I'm not sure.
You put links in your posts with the LINK tool...the little icon in the tool bar that looks like a link in a chain. It is just to the right of the "I" (which is what you use to italicize type.)
The end result is a link like this to another web page.
Thanks. I did mean Topic and Thread.
Rich, suppose I want to link to a specific post within a thread (so that the post itself pops up when someone hits the link). For example, this thread can be accessed with the following URL but it shows the beginning of the thread.
https://ogrforum.com/t...nking-email-strings?
What I've done is use advanced search picking out some unique terms within the post. This finds me the URL for the specific post which seems to have a bunch of long numbers at the end that apparently identifies a specific post within a thread. This is cumbersome and I'm sure there's a better way?
Thanks.

Click on"Permalink" under "Take Action" (from the post of interest) to get a page that has the post you want at the top.
In addition to what Dave said above, after going to your desired post and selecting Permalink from the Take Action menu, you have to select and copy the url from the address bar for pasting into your new post.
I am probably mistaken on the operation of the old forum, but I was thinking one did not have to copy the permalink url on the old forum?
OK...NOW I'm up to speed with what you want to do! Here's how to link to a SPECIFIC POST within a thread:
I used this procedure to make THIS LINK to Randy Harrison's post on page 198 in the long-running "What Did You Do On Your Layout Today?" thread.

Oops. I assumed it was implied to copy the URL, just like in Rich's instructions (Step 1), so I did not restate that part.
I believe using permalinks worked exactly the same on the old forum.
"Permalink" meant nothing to me but now I know better! I wonder if "Permalink" could be changed to "Link This Post" in the Take Action pull-down. Thanks all for the quick responses as this will be a time saver.

That's a great suggestion!
I can't change that text myself, but I will bring this idea to the attention of the Hoopla Tech Support folks.

I figured I was mistaken, but I just don't remember having to copy and paste before? Of course the old memory ain't what it used to be either...

Well, for Firefox (I suspect others, but didn't experiment), after left clicking on Take Action, you could always right click on Permalink and select "copy link location" instead of actually opening/viewing the permalink.
I did that to create this link to your post without browsing away from this main thread page.

In Edge, you get the option to Copy Link if you right-click on Permalink, so you don't have to open/view the link.
I had not thought about the RIGHT-CLICK option. That will work with all browsers.
I updated my original post to suggest this method.
