I got the Great Northern GP7 at a hobby store for my son last year. It was an open box item. Shortly thereafter it started to have some issues, put off addressing it till this year. It will connect, light up, and start making sounds in neutral. Sometimes once it is given a command to move it shuts off. Moving it slightly usually helps, once running it is great. In the video attached it runs fine in one direction, neutral is ok, then switching back to move it shuts off. I opened it up and I don't see any obvious issues. Has anyone experienced something like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Lionel product number would be helpful in order to help you. It looks to be a LionChief 2.0 model, but without the number we can't be sure.

Sorry about that it is 6-84108, lionchief plus.
I hear beeping right before it shuts down like it's waiting to pair with the remote. I wonder if it's some sort of Bluetooth issue.
That was another train the kids left on the other track, they split while I was troubleshooting.
The video does not tell me much. I would not want to spend any time trying to guess what is wrong until you give assurance that all of the following items have been addressed immediately before the the next video is made:
- The track is completely clean.
- The engine wheels and center pickup rollers are completely clean.
- Track voltage is verified on both sides of any turnout shown in the video.
And the next video should show all of the issues you mentioned:
- What sound does it make in neutral? Is it the chirping sound indicating it is trying to "pair" with the remote?
- Does the whole engine shut off, including the headlight? Or does the chirping noise start?
- What moving is done that usually helps?
Does the same behavior occur with the Lionel app?
That was a good idea I was really hoping it was the remote but it did the same thing in the app…track and rollers are clean. In neutral the lights stay lit and it is still connected to the remote it shuts off only when given a command to move.
Hi @CHAWKI33,
I am new to LionChief, but take a quick look at the board. Perhaps something is shorting, loose, or perhaps a cracked trace on the board.
