I got this engine and it runs forward  only.   Does anyone have one they could take an interior shot of showing the e unit and motor.  Also the bottom of the rear truck, is there magnatraction, traction tires????   I would like to put it back to what it is suppose to be.   I thank everyone for your help and info.

I have one too, and mine came with a non-functioning e-unit, no doubt something the previous owner added. I replaced the trashed-out e-unit with another repaired one (100-25, three position), and that works fine - fortunately, Lionel left the slot in the shell for the e-unit lever!

As others have said, no horn, windshield, traction wheels, magnatraction, or (originally) an e-unit. Nor is there much weight, so the bloody thing has almost no traction! I procured a traction tire wheel and will put it on as soon as I work through other priorities on my list. I expect only a slight improvement in traction - I saw the same lack-o-traction on my 2024, which came with one traction tire, and it wouldn't pull much without producing wheel hop on the traction tire - so I added a 2nd traction tire wheel to that one, and it improved things only a bit. Weight is the real answer - just add some weight. Makes a nice, bright red addition to the stable!

Got mine Christmas 1961 and is still running. Gets a tune up annually  along with lube jobs. Apart from  a  sentimental  standpoint, I wouldn't  trade for all the new hi-tech locomotive models on the market today. You just can't  kill it. Can't  remember  how many times it went airborne  as a kid, picked it up put rerailed it and off it went!
