Wow, quite the comeback for this thread. The 2020 is one of my favorites now (I don't have any single, I like all my locos ) As for the next project, I'm not sure at the moment. There's a show coming up this weekend and I'll have to keep an eye out for something. The turbine is my 5th postwar locomotive. I already have 2 2055's (one was my grandfathers), my grandfathers childhood 2037 as well as my 736 berkshire. I do want a 675 type of locomotive someday. If I spot one at a good price I may have to grab it. I purchased an Atlas GP15 from a friend at the last show and I've been trying to limit myself to 1 locomotive purchase per year (yeah right... )
It brought joy to many audience members at the Redford Theatre this year. It ran on my 8x16 Christmas Display for at least 4 shows during the holidays and there might be another one or two this month as well if I'm able to get over there to play trains. I recently rebuilt the whistle mechanism completely and it is sounding great again as well. The locomotive spent most of it's theater operating time in front of my 736W Pennsy tender from my berkshire (which also had it's fair share of run time on the display) Now all I need are a set of Green 6400 passenger cars to go with it. Almost picked up a complete set last year with the locomotive, but ended up with a Lionel JLC GG1 instead. This turbine has definitely been a nice locomotive in my collection.
Dave, the wheel on mine was too far gone to repair. It had been loose for a long time and operated that way which stripped it out. I attempted to fix it with some epoxy, but that only lasted a short time. The new wheel from Olsens ebay store works great. Just had to transfer the smoke unit chuff pin to the new one and carefully pressed it on with my woodworking vice. I believe the locomotive was dropped at some point in time which probably affected that. One of the rear wheels has a noticeable flat spot in the outer edge of the nickel rim.
Jim, sorry I never got back to you. Didn't notice the thread had popped back up. Glad Rick was able to help you out.
